Commuteur ("we", "us", "our") makes the Commuteur iPhone app (the "App") and runs commuteur.com (the "Site"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use either one, what we do with it, and the choices you have.
We do not sell your personal information.
1. What we collect
In the App
- Account details: your name and email address when you create an account, or the details Apple shares when you use Sign in with Apple.
- Profile photo: if you choose to add one.
- Location: your device's location while the App is open, to show where you are and find nearby stops and options.
- Saved places and searches: locations you save (such as home or work) and recent searches.
- Trip history: routes you plan and trips you complete, which power your history and Green Points.
- Wallet activity: your Commuteur Balance, transactions and Green Points redemptions.
- Diagnostics: crash reports and general usage information that help us fix problems.
On the Site
- Waitlist: if you join the waitlist, we store your email address and the date you signed up.
- Basic request data: our hosting provider processes standard information such as IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the Site. We don't use advertising trackers or cookies on the Site.
2. How we use it
- To plan routes and compare transit, rideshare, bike, walking and rental options.
- To show live vehicle positions, departure times and service alerts.
- To calculate and award Green Points and keep your wallet balance accurate.
- To sync your saved places and trip history across your devices.
- To send notifications about trips and transit alerts, only if you turn them on.
- To email you when the App launches, if you joined the waitlist.
- To keep the App and Site secure and to meet legal obligations.
3. Location
The App asks for "While Using the App" location access. We don't track your location in the background. Your location is stored on our servers only when you take an action that needs it, such as saving a place or completing a trip. You can change this any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Commuteur.
4. Payments
Card payments are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. Your full card number is sent directly to Stripe and is never stored on our servers.
5. Storage, retention and deletion
App account data is stored with Google Firebase, which encrypts data in transit and at rest. We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and its data at any time in the App under Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us.
Waitlist emails are stored with Cloudflare and deleted once launch emails have gone out, or sooner if you ask.
6. Third-party services
The App and Site rely on these providers, each with its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase: sign-in, database, file storage and diagnostics.
- Google Places: place search and details.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple.
- Stripe: payments.
- Uber: rideshare prices and booking, when you choose a ride.
- Avis: rental car availability.
- Ticketmaster: event listings.
- NJ TRANSIT and MTA: schedules, real-time vehicle positions and alerts. We request public transit data from them; we don't send them your account details.
- Cloudflare: hosting for this Site and storage for the waitlist.
7. Children
The App and Site aren't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information at any time. Depending on where you live, including California (CCPA) and the European Economic Area (GDPR), you may also have the right to data portability and to object to certain processing. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the App.
